Fifth among the children of the late Henry Sy Sr., his main focus is on the retail side of the family business, as he is also the vice-chairman of the boards of Super Shopping Market Inc and SM Hypermarket

Herbert T. Sy, is the son of SM's late founder, Henry H. Sy, Sr., and Felicidad T. Sy. In a family of six, he is the second-youngest. Now that he made a family of his own, he is a proud father of four and has a bachelor's degree in management from De La Salle University. He is involved in the group's supermarket operations, including the investment arm.

He is a director at SM Prime, the real estate development arm of the SM conglomerate, and an adviser at SM Investment. A member of the board since April 1994, he has served for a total of 27 years. His stock holdings exceed 2.30 percent.

Achieving success in the business world

Since 1994, he has served on the board of directors for the company and as director of ShoeMart, Inc. He has also served as an advisor to the board of directors for SMIC and is currently serving as chairman of Super Value Inc., the company responsible for operating all SM Supermarkets. In addition to leading Sanford Marketing and Super Shopping Market, both of which he chairs, he also serves as chairman of the board for the Sanford Corporation.

To name a few of his many titles and responsibilities, Herbert Sy serves as the director of SM appliances Center and SM Prime, director of Alpha Mart Trading Philippines INC, and executive vice president of SM ACA. More than 900 stores in the Philippines are under his control, and he serves as Director of Chinabank Corporation, Director of Best Rubber Corporation, and Chairman of Sondrik Holdings Corporation. As a result, it's easy to see that his wealth is stretched out in many different ways.

The continuing legacy of his father

He has spent over 30 years working with SM companies involved in food retail, and he also serves on the boards of directors of several SM group companies. He also plays a key role in the SM Group's supermarket operations, such as site evaluation and negotiation. Herbert built a prosperous life for himself by continuing his family's business ventures. His father, the late Henry Sy Sr., started the family business and created a fortune.
